Grogan’s Mill, a historic village of the Woodlands in Houston, Texas is nestled between Lake Houston and Gulf Shores in the Gulf of Mexico. Grogan’s Mill was originally built by the Grogan family, originally as a community for cattle raisers, but today it serves as a popular tourist attraction for those interested in the rich history of the area. A little history of Grogan’s Mill can be found in Conroe, TX and The Woodlands, TX Plan of 1849, which is the first plan for a planned neighborhood in the city of Houston. The original plan envisioned the community as a place of refuge, offering many amenities and conveniences for those who chose to move there.
Grogan’s Mill, which is now known simply as “the Village of Grogan’s”, is still one of the more historic communities in the area. Although it may not look as spectacular as some of the other planned communities of Houston, it is not far behind in terms of historic importance. Its location makes it easy for visitors to take a stroll through its streets, looking at the historical architecture of houses such as the Grogan Family Mansion and the Grogan Memorial Church. Visitors are also welcome to tour Grogan’s Mill itself and participate in a walk or hike through the grounds. If you would rather have your tour guide to accompany you, Grogan’s is an ideal place to start.
Grogan’s is still a relatively small community, with fewer than a hundred homes on the majority of its streets. However, its history is one of prosperity, as the Grogan Family’s business thrived in the region for many years. Grogan’s is located right along the shores of Lake Houston, making it a great destination for families on vacation, those interested in learning about the history of the area, and even a few tourists.
