In 1881, the International-Great Northern Railroad Company purchased the Conroe Tract to build a line from Houston to Shreveport, Louisiana. A large portion of the Conroe Tract was used to construct the railroad, but a small section was set aside for a wooded area. This wooded area eventually became known as 7-Acre Wood.
